Use #38 Coupler
Remove and discard the original couplers. Cut the post off and file the inside of the box smooth, removing any flash. File sidewalls in a tapered manner to fit the 30-Series draft gear box over the hole. Tap the hole for a 2-56 screw. if needed, remove the body and truck gear housing (bottom of truck) and sideframe. Assemble the #38 Coupler with the lid on the top and the torsion spring on the bottom. Mount to the modified coupler box, through the pilot coupler opening, with a 2-56 screw trimmed to the appropriate length. Follow the instructions included with the couplers for assembly and adjustment.

Bachmann - Spectrum Doodlebug

Use NO.5®or #38 Coupler on large radius.
Use #454 Swing Bracket with a #31 Coupler on small radius.
Pilot: It is not recommended to convert the pilot, there's just too little to work with.
Rear: It is not recommended to convert the Bachmann swing coupler box, as even with a #27 offset coupler the coupler will be too low. For larger radii track: Use a NO.5®Coupler and box in place of Bachmann swing box. Remove body, small screw connecting end of articulating arm and drop the box out. Assemble NO.5®Coupler and carefully glue lid to box. Trim lip off the lid. Secure through pivot hole with 2-56 screw and nut trimmed to appropriate length. For smaller radii track use a #454 Swing Bracket with a #31 Coupler.
