IHC (Mehano) 4-4-0 American (Steam)

Pilot: Remove crossbar that the dummy coupler clips to, from the coupler box. Carefully tap the hole for a 2-56 screw. Slip the #29 spring and coupler through the front. Cut off the "ears" and "lip" from a NO.5®box lid. Slip the long side of the modified NO.5®lid under the triangular connection of the "cow catcher" and the box. Make sure that the centerpost is through the coupler and spring and is centered on the hole on the Locomotive. Press down on the lid to make sure it is level with the top of the box. Check coupler freedom of motion. Secure with a 2-56 screw.

IHC (Mehano) Center Cab Switcher (Diesel)

Use #27 Coupler. Remove body, weights and underframe from chassis. Discard couplers. Assemble the #27 Coupler in a NO.5®Draft Gear Box per instructions and glue the lid on. Trim the ears off the box flush with sides. Cut off IHC coupler centerpost, widen area between short platform sidewalls (not chassis side walls) to 5/16" by filing evenly on both sides. Place couplers in chassis, temporarily replace underframe. Use coupler box (lip at end of underframe) to locate and mark mounting hole. Remove underframe. Drill and tap a 2-56 hole. Secure couplers with 2-56 screw. Trim screw flush with bottom of chassis. Trim underframe braces to clear screw heads. Trim top only of coupler pocket opening. Follow the instructions included with the couplers for assembly and adjustment.
