ARISTO-CRAFT RAIL BUS

#831 "G" scale #1831 "#1 scale Rear Only

Invert the bus and remove the wire spring and coupler from the two mounting posts and retain the longer screw.
Assemble the #831/1831 coupler per its instructions. Drill a 1/8" hole through the center of the large recessed hole  in the slot of the draft gear box shank.
Slip the longer original screw (from the forward post) through the new hole and place 6 of our #208 .015" shim washers or .090" of equivalent spacers, over the screw on the inside. Carefully roll the coupler over onto the forward post, so the washers don't slip off. Tighten the screw slowly and make sure the rear post and the notch in the end of the box shank fits together. As you tighten the screw the coupler will straighten and become level. If the screw and post hole do not line up and needs to slide back some you can file the corners of the notch to fit the rear post tighter.
Check the coupler for the correct height, clearance, and function. Adjust the height, if necessary, by removing or adding shim washers.
The Rail Bus will negotiate 5 foot diameter curves with a short car with truck mounted couplers. Remember the Rail Bus is not a locomotive and should be limited to pulling only one or two light cars (per Aristo-Craft instructions).
